Project Peek: Closet Organization + Design

About this Organizing + Design Project

This closet is part of an HGO organizing and design project for a young married couple in Houston getting their home ready for their first baby by adding on a primary suite. They envisioned their new primary suite as a retreat—a space that would not only accommodate their growing family but also feel like an intimate chic boutique hotel - right at home.

We collaborated with their interior designer to design and organize a custom his-and-hers closet that seamlessly fit their lifestyle. The primary challenge was lack of structure—there wasn’t an efficient system to keep their clothes, shoes, and accessories organized in a way that was easy to maintain. Our goal was to create a balanced and symmetrical layout with tailored storage solutions, including dedicated shoe storage, drawer space, and hanging areas.

Once the closet was installed, we organized and styled their wardrobe, incorporating practical elements such as drawer dividers, shelf bins for accessories, slim hangers, hanger racks, custom shoe-shelf risers, and jewelry storage to elevate both functionality and style.

Closet Organizing Tips from this Project

  1. Open-ended pant hangers: Placing pants on the top hanging rod—although unconventional—created a streamlined look and freed up valuable shelf space below.

  2. Boot storage: With limited vertical space for tall boots, we stored them horizontally in boot boxes, offering protection while maximizing storage potential.

  3. Custom shoe risers: Designed specifically by HGO, these risers transformed the shoe storage area, improving visibility, accessibility, and maximizing space.

Our Favorite Design Feature

One standout feature we absolutely love is the underlighting HGO’s professional interior designers incorporated throughout the closet’s structure. Underlighting is a simple way to enhance the ambiance and functionality of a space, and it brings a sophisticated touch to the closet’s design.

This soft, ambient lighting not only highlights the closet's sleek design and high-quality materials but also makes the room feel more spacious and visually dynamic. By adding a warm glow beneath shelves and hanging areas, underlighting draws attention to the closet's modern lines, creating an upscale, boutique-like atmosphere. It’s the perfect finishing touch that combines style with practicality, elevating the overall aesthetic of the room.

Whether you're seeking enhanced visibility or simply want to add a touch of luxury to your space, underlighting is a quick and impactful way to elevate your design.
