How Does the Springtime Affect Us?
After writing our blog on Spring cleaning, we got to thinking about Spring and the changes it causes in all of us. We found a few facts that were really interesting (and honestly kind of crazy) and wanted to share with all of you! Hope you enjoy!
On the first day of spring, a person at the North Pole can see the sun rising, marking the start of six months of uninterrupted daylight, while a person at the South Pole would see the sunset, indicating the start of six months of darkness. Can you imagine six whole months of darkness? I’ll stick to my regularly scheduled day and night, thank you.
Couples are most likely to break up during the spring and two weeks before Christmas. Although the reasoning for this is unclear, scientists suggest that it could be due to the springtime attitude of rebirth that makes people want to start over and find someone new, and the nicer weather encouraging people to go out and meet new people. Don’t want to be a victim of the spring breakup? Even though we usually preach to let things go in terms of decluttering, we’d say hold onto your partner tight these next few months and shut down any talk of “starting over” haha!
Spring is the most popular time of year to buy and sell a house. Buyers usually prefer to move during the spring when the weather is warmer and the kids are no longer in school. Although there are more houses available during this time, prices of property usually increase due to demand. Hold out just a few months until you buy that dream house if you can unless you’re willing to pay the spring premium!
Children actually grow more during the spring and summer months than during fall and winter. The greater exposure to light in these months signals their growth. It is also important that children receive better sleep during this time because the majority of their growth hormone is produced during the first few hours of sleep. If you want your child to be a basketball star one day, leave them outside during the spring and get them to bed early!
The term “spring fever” is actually a real phenomenon. The arrival of spring produces both psychological and physiological symptoms such as restlessness, flushed face, increased heart rate, daydreaming, and increased sexual activity. Although it is unclear exactly what causes this, researchers believe that increased light, more exercise, and more bare skin influence hormone levels. Who knows, maybe this restlessness is why so many people break up during the spring. Regardless, cover up and stop exercising if you don’t want to fall victim to these symptoms this year!
We hope you enjoyed these facts about Spring! We found it interesting that this time of year sparks so many changes, not just in our environment, but in our bodies as well. Do you have any topics you’d like us to talk about? Let us know in the comments below!
